Essential oils are so ESSENTIAL to the well-being of our family. (See what I did there lol). I have been using essential oils since I was a college freshman. I fell in love with them because of my best friend actually! One weekend we had a sleepover, and she was diffusing lavender throughout the night and I swear I got the best sleep I ever had. I was sold!
So, I wanted to share with you all my top five favorite essential oils and how I use them!
First and foremost, Thieves! This is probably the fave oil of any oily person out there. It is amazing. It is made up of clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary essential oils. I won’t go into each ingredient individually, but all together, this blend helps fight against illness and purifies everything it touches! It is safe to diffuse around kids but be careful about topical use. It’s best to dilute it with a carrier oil (like coconut oil) if you can! It smells like clove which is so refreshing, and it helps reduce the length of illnesses and keeps the others in your house as healthy as possible when one of you gets sick! I also love to diffuse it after I’ve cooked a meal if the smells of the food are sticking around too long!
Another all-time fave oil is lavender oil! This is the oil that made me fall in love with oils. It smells so fresh and clean, and it is super relaxing. I put it in Wesley’s diffuser at nap time and bedtime, and if he’s extra cranky or hyper, I put it on his feet at bedtime. I also put it on mine and Brian’s pillows at night if we are having trouble sleeping or have just had a long day and need to relax! It’s also a great one to add to a bath! It’s gentle on adult and baby skin!
One that I personally use ALL THE TIME is Digize. It contains tarragon, ginger, peppermint, juniper, lemongrass, anise, patchouli, and fennel. This one is good for calming as well, but I mainly use it for tummy aches! I have a very sensitive stomach. I’m really sensitive to “junk” food and sugar, so when I haven’t been watching what I eat very well and start to feel sick, I apply this oil on my tummy and chest. It helps so much! It honestly helps more than any medication ever has! It also helps a lot with heartburn which is another thing I frequently get. I have even diluted it and put a drop on Wesley’s belly (as a toddler, not a baby) when it seemed like he was having tummy troubles and it helped him!
Here is an oil that is actually a favorite of my husband. Lemon! Lemon is an amazing oil. It smells amazing which makes it a great one to diffuse. It purifies the air, and it is great for purifying and cleaning countertops, kitchen appliances, etc. My husband also uses it on his face! It is great for acne, brightening, and just generally purifying the skin!
A final fave oil of mine is tea tree! As you can see, I didn’t get this oil from young living. Although I love their oils, I also love getting my essential oils from a small shop in Wimberley, Texas called The Herb Room. The Tea Tree oil they make is the best one I’ve tried! Tea tree is great for fighting infections. I use it on my ear piercings whenever they get sore or red. I also use it on my face to fight against break outs and to keep my skin looking and feeling fresh!
I hope this has convinced you to GET ON THE OILS TRAIN! They are great and have helped us deal with sickness, cleaning, skin care, purification, etc. without having to use medications or harsh chemicals! Share with me about your favorite oils and how you use them! Get started with oils HERE!
P.S. Be careful about topical use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, because some oils can potentially cause uterine contractions or effect your milk supply and hormones. Do your research or ask an oily friend if you’re not sure if you can use them!
