Why I Started This Blog!

It has been a little over a year since I started this blog! Wow, I can’t believe it has been that long!

I have had so much support for this blog from my friends and family. From the very beginning, I have had so much encouragement and love from others on social media and in person for this blog and for the things that I have written.

Since it is sort of the one-year anniversary (a few weeks off but oh well) of me starting this little blog, I wanted to write about WHY I started this blog in the first place!

One HUGE reason is, I wanted to document my time as a brand new mom with a brand new baby! Motherhood is such an interesting and different journey, and I wanted to remember it from the point of view that I have right now. And I wanted to share those things with others and let those who care about us know what’s going on in our lives.

Another reason was, I was craving a creative outlet. Before Wesley, I was a vocal music education major! So, I had A LOT of opportunity for creative and intellectual outlets! I have always loved writing and in the absence of mandatory college papers, I had a chance to write for fun again! Enter Mama Mizell Blog. Now I have the opportunity to write about something that I have found I am so passionate about: motherhood!!

Another reason that I started this blog is something that I am passionate about in regard to motherhood. I wanted to be REAL. Social media is such a double-edged sword. It can connect you to people in a way that we’ve never been able to be connected before. But it can also give you the wrong impression of other’s lives. It can make you believe that everyone has it all together, meanwhile you have no idea what you’re doing!! I wanted to offer my perspective as a new mother in a way that was real and wasn’t sugar coated. I don’t know how many times I’ve said the phrase “motherhood is hard” in this blog. But that’s because it really is!! I don’t want any new mother to read my blog and walk away thinking that I have it all together. I want to find a community of mothers who can relate to me and my struggles! Got a baby who never sleeps? Been there! Got a toddler who knows what buttons to push and knows the exact worst time to throw a tantrum? Me too girl!! Let’s talk about it!! I wanted my blog to be an encouragement to others and a reminder to me of what I want to strive for. Real connections. Real life!

So, there you have it! That’s pretty much why you all have had the honor of reading my ramblings for a solid year! I’m so thankful for the support and love that I have received through this blog. At first, it was a little scary to sort of step out of my comfort zone in this way, but now, I am so glad that I did! God has blessed me with some great people and encouragement through this journey, and I hope I can be an encouragement to some other mama out there!
