I’m just going to say it…. being a mom is hard! It is the most rewarding and yet challenging job I’ve ever had. There is so much at stake. Here is this tiny, brand new person who you are so emotionally invested in and you have no idea what you’re doing! For me at least, every day brings new challenges. With all of these challenges and new experiences, worry and anxiety can start to creep in. It is so important during these moments to remember that everything belongs to God. Even your tiny, precious baby that you think you love more than anyone ever could belongs to God.
Here are some scriptures that I have found help me deal with my mommy anxiety and find peace:
Philippians 4:6-7 “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Many people turn to this passage when they deal with anxiety. It is so powerful. All we have to do is turn to God for peace through prayer. Praying through overwhelming circumstances has been such a blessing to me and this passage has become a constant reminder for me now that I am a mother!
Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
This verse is one that reminds me of God’s power! When I am struggling to make it through the day, be it from lack of sleep or feelings of inferiority, I remember who my God is. He is powerful enough to strengthen me and help me through my shortcomings. It’s easy for me to wonder if I am capable of the task of motherhood, but I know God would never set me up for failure! He will strengthen me through all of my doubt and fears!
Psalms 94:19 “When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.”
If you’re looking for comfort or peace, turn to the Psalms! There are so many Psalms that remind me to give everything over to God. If I want to be happy and cheerful, I have to remember that God is the author of my life, not me. His promises should be enough to bring joy and peace into my life.
1 Peter 5:7- “Cast all of your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
This scripture is so encouraging because it reminds me that God is on my side! He is so powerful and he wants me to succeed at this.
There are so many more scriptures that encourage me and have helped me through trying times as a new mother. I’m sure every mom has her favorites that she turns to. It is so important to remember that as long as you are loving your child and bringing them up to love and worship God, you are already a great mother!! This world can make us feel uncertain and anxious about every choice we make as a parent, but ultimately everything is in God’s hands.
Romans 8:31 “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
